Our ambition

No one in the emergency services should die by suicide.

When someone is struggling, they feel comfortable to speak and confident they will be heard. The people around them know what to do and are unafraid to do it. Every level of their organisation is equipped and motivated to support them.

Our approach

Community. Care. Change.

We are honest about where we are. Each area shows what we do today, and what we are building for tomorrow.

Community

Never feel alone. The people around you.

Removing stigma so it is normal to speak openly about suicide, ideation and how the job is affecting you. Building trusted networks within and across services, where people look out for each other and step in when something is not right.

Today

  • An online community across social media that raises awareness, reduces stigma and builds a shared identity
  • Fundraising to deliver support services
  • Community and support events, across the country

Tomorrow

  • A national network of supporters, spokespeople and services promoting suicide prevention
  • Regular podcasts, conversations and video content
  • Peer networks embedded across services, offering peer-led support and driving change from within

Care

The right support, at the right time. The support available.

The people around someone struggling knowing how to respond, and feeling confident doing so. Knowing where to go for help and trusting the advice. Where support does not exist, providing it.

Today

  • Guided self-help that gives people ways to look after their own wellbeing
  • Increasing access to tried and tested services with strong support for emergency services personnel

Tomorrow

  • Accessible toolkits for managers supporting staff with suicidal thoughts
  • Influencing national standards across HR, occupational health and governing bodies
  • Early-support sessions as a normal part of entering the service rather than an optional extra

Change

Fixing the system that puts people at risk. The system you work in.

Organisations recognising the impact of the job and taking responsibility for it. Working with leadership, reducing stigma at every level, and making suicide prevention part of how services operate nationally.

Today

  • Working with leaders and services who already want to do better
  • Sharing insight from lived experience across organisations
  • Engaging national governing bodies, charities and partner organisations

Tomorrow

  • Policy, standards and national guidelines that support staff at the point of crisis
  • Greater accountability and visibility of the issue nationally
  • Honest, practical processes embedded in organisations, with a culture that removes stigma
Our journey

Where we have come from, and where we are going.

Everything down to September 2026 is done. Two kinds of thing sit on this line. Milestones are moments, and they carry a date. Phases are bodies of work, and each one carries a gate it has to pass before the next begins. We move forward when the gate is met, not when the calendar says so.

  1. 4 November 2025, complete

    Silence Between Sirens begins

It begins with one Instagram post from Coops. No company yet, no website, no Crew. The first block of everything that followed.

  2. June 2026, complete

Established as a Community Interest Company

Silence Between Sirens CIC, registered in England and Wales. Our assets and profits are locked to our purpose, which is what a CIC is for.

  3. FoundationsComplete

    Governance and policies

Governance, safeguarding, data protection, insurance and risk management in place.

Gate Compliance and governance in place

  4. Phase 0Complete

    Awareness, events and fundraising

Days that bring blue light workers together, the fundraising that pays for them, and the volunteer policy, recruitment and training sitting behind them.

Gate Events running safely and sustainably

  5. Phase 1Complete

    Signposting

A service directory, referral pathways, partnership agreements, and training so that people are pointed at the right door rather than any door.

Gate Signposting effective and referral pathways validated

  6. September 2026, complete

    10,000 people following on Instagram

A community big enough that a post reaches people we would never otherwise meet, and makes it ordinary to talk about suicide and how the job is affecting you.

  7. September 2026, complete

    The website goes live

One place that says plainly who we are, what exists already, and where the gaps are.

  8. Phase 2 · From October 2026Under way

    The LifeLine Crew launches

Our volunteer-led network starts. The first Crew come together, and we build the training with them rather than for them. Awareness and signposting first.

Gate Crew trained and confident in awareness and signposting

  9. Phase 3 · From November 2026Next

    Before Breaking Point

Early-support sessions for people about to enter the service. What good mental health looks like, how ill health arrives gradually rather than all at once, and speaking up early.

Gate Sessions tested with recruits and students, and changed by what we learn

  10. During 2027Planned

    Converting to a registered charity

Our ambition is to convert from a Community Interest Company to a registered charity. Gift Aid, payroll giving and most corporate giving schemes sit behind charitable status, and all of them are closed to us until then.

  11. Phase 4Open

    To be shaped together

Deliberately open. Where this goes next is for the Crew, our ambassadors and the people we work alongside to decide. We would rather arrive at the right answer slowly than announce the wrong one now.

Gate Set together, once we get there

Throughout every phase

Volunteer recruitment and wellbeing, continuous training, safeguarding and governance reviews, quality improvement, impact measurement, and funding and sustainability.

Where we are now

Early stage, with momentum.

  • Building connections within and across the emergency services
  • Having conversations that are not usually happening
  • Raising awareness of the issue, and of what is missing
  • Linking people to support that already exists

We are working with people on the ground to understand what is needed, and what works.

You do not have to be at breaking point to reach out.

Silence Between Sirens is not a crisis service. These lines are free and there for you now.
